Topic of Choosing #2
I thought
it would be interesting to research the cities along the Camino de Santiago and
see what cultural landmarks and food they have to offer for the travelers. I chose to start with Astorga, which is
located in northwestern Spain. While in
the city the pilgrims have a variety of landmarks to visit. In the city there are many aged cathedrals
with beautiful Spanish architecture. In particular,
the Cathedral of Santa Maria holds the title of “Holy Apostolic Cathedral” and
consists of three major parts. The first
being the area of worship, followed by the are of culture, and finally the area
of charity. Another popular destination
in Astorga is the Roman museum. Many
parts of Astorga have remains from the Roman era, which is why travelers visit
the museum located in what is called “The Ergastula.” The building is currently listed as a
National Monument and holds many important artifacts from the archaeological excavations
that have taken place. One of the most
popular restaurants in the city is called Casa Maragata. This restaurant gained its popularity from
its outstanding stew recipe and the ability of travelers to come and eat an
adequate meal for a great price.
