Good Business

I am currently taking Philosophy 207 which is a Business Ethics course. I wasn't very excited to take it but it is required for my business major. However, I have ended up enjoying it and learning a lot. My favorite part about it is when we get to discuss ethical issues because I really enjoy debating. A few weeks ago we read an article called "Ethics is Good for Business" and it is about exactly what the title implies. It discusses whether being ethical is good for your business regardless of the fact that a business should be ethical because it is the right thing to do. I found it interesting that this point was brought up because I had previously thought that someone either acts ethically because thats what they should do or they don't act ethically because they don't care what they should do. This article presents another view, that it is actually beneficial to your business to have good ethics. One of his points is that being ethical looks good to consumers so they view you in a positive light and will return and refer others. Another point is that you don't have to worry about any negative consequences if you are performing ethically - you don't have to look for any loopholes in regulations or hire a lawyer to make sure you aren't breaking the law. This saves you time, money, and possibly jail time. I think the article was persuasive and informative, so business owners would benefit to read and analyze it for themselves.
