Hello reader,
I felt that as this is my first and subsequently very late blog post I should begin with a topic of my own choosing,
And the question of the hour,
What is truly peace?
I have often reflected on this matter, what is peace? Is it limited to nations and those who wield the power? If peace is good why do so many die for it? I have found that peace is something common to all, everyone can experience it, feel it, witness it. Peace is temporary - a moment or period where you feel one with yourself or the space around you, where amidst a world of pain and destruction you find solace and joy. I have discovered peace in my own experience many early mornings just before Physical Training, as I am an Army ROTC cadet and officer in training. I would depart from my dorm and walk outside to feel the cool rush of fall and look up to an open night sky, stars gleaming and low moon shining - taking in the moment, just me, alone, as I walk towards the place where the others are waiting. In that moment, where all is silent and beautiful, my tired eyes scan the stars whilst in the back of my mind I know that although those in my area mostly lie asleep, the rest of the world was awake, thousands being born and dying all at once. Something about those moments where you stop and feel complete. For me it was those mornings, just before I was cast into an intense physical rush, while the remnants of night were on the brink of becoming day. Peace is never permanent however, nor should it. You cannot have peace nor know to cherish it without the bustle of life and the brutality of war.
