1. From:
Jason Hershey, Culture of Revival: Married to the Land
There is a connection to the place
you are called to and why you are there. You do not just “end up” somewhere for
a reason. Everyone that goes through the Appalachian Trail is going through for
a reason. The path of the Camino de Santiago has been tread upon by every foot
for a cause. Hershey says that many people can become overcome with criticism,
while the heart of that individual must remain focused on the reality that is
in front of them, not ignoring their goal. I believe that this transpires with
the journeys that I have heard people having on the trail as they go, because it
gives them the time and space needed to connect, even though they have trouble
doing so in some cases due to the criticism that they may face from common
society. The trail is a special place to actually go forth and not focus on
society, but on what is ahead of you in the present moment. This is one reason
that I enjoy a journey, because it removes the pressure of the societal
remarks, whatever they may be.
