Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture, Entry 12/15

12-4-15...4:16PM

Hello reader,

During the high middle ages and the post-Napoleonic period, Christians would engage in "Marian pilgrimages" where they would seek to visit places where a vision or apparition of the virgin Mary had occurred. These pilgrims would come from across Europe in search of these now deemed holy locations, in hopes of offering a prayer and potentially seeking Mary herself or sharing an experience with God. Holy sites have always been the destination for the religious, or  those seeking help with some pressing issue in their lives - hunger, poverty, a sick family member or spouse, or a goal that needed divine intervention to become attainable. I observe that people have done this for thousands f years, and will continue to do so into the future. People of religion will always place their hopes in the almighty, and seek assistance in their lives through their journeys and offerings at such holy sites.
