The Phenomenology of Prayer #2

Wednesday 3, 2015

In the book The Phenomenology of Prayer by Bruce Benson and Norman Wirzba it is said “We cannot listen very well to the voice of God if we are chattering ourselves or even if we merely keep ourselves surrounded by noise” (20). This quote is important to many who don’t understand that, in order to listen to God, creation of sanctuary is important to listen to the world. While some say God speaks directly to people, I believe God speaks through occurrences and nature. Benson and Wirzba later explain “If you choose to speak, God must fall Silent” (20). This reaction is to show the importance of listening. Through listening you will see the true language of god, no longer an un-decipherable conversation. Sitting at home, in the wilderness, or even in a foreign place, the word of God can be heard if you listen.
