Kasey Frazier Outside Readings: Hunger Games (Sacred Place is a Storied Place)

When people think of the Hunger Games series they usually think of a blood bath of fighting to live. After taking this course this series has a whole new outlook to me. When I hear or read or see Hunger Games I think of the characters beginning their story that is part of a bigger book. An arena where people are killed may not be looked at as sacred but lets try a new perspective. A better angle would be characters finding themselves and what they are willing to do in life. Being tested by other beings and the forces of nature. These characters are creating their own stories (their individual journey throughout the arena) which is becoming apart of a bigger story (good vs. bad in this case). In this series the arena could be considered sacred because in Landscapes of the Sacred the author says "a sacred place is a storied place." The arena in Hunger Games is a storied place therefore the connection can be made that it is a sacred place.
