Kasey Frazier Setting/Personal Experience: Florida Swamp

From the age three to grade school I lived in Tallahassee, Florida. A very nice house with a swamp in the backyard. Florida is known for its nature and beauty in all different ways. The swamp in the backyard contained baby crocodiles and other swamp animals. Growing up around that environment I learned to adapt to the neighborhood and its lovely creatures.

One day I found myself playing outside in the front yard. I glanced over to see a baby crocodile in the grass on the side of the house watching me play around. I called for my mom, who was inside the house to come out and look because it was rare the crocodiles come up so close to our home. My mom did not come out so I slowly started walking towards the front door to be safe because at a young age I was afraid. The crocodile followed me to the front door and wags back and forth and after a few moments finally leaves. Once the crocodile made it back to the swamp my mother finally came out.

For me this experience with such a different species made me wonder what the crocodile thought of me. He was fearless and passionate when he followed me to my front door. The few moments we looked at each other made me feel as if we were communicating. We both did not want any trouble but was just truly amazed at the moment that was happening. I believe to this day there was an Other trying to connect to me through this animal but I was just too young to understand.
